������������� Nursing Students Provide Healthcare Services in 12th International Clinical Trip

Salt Lake City, UT – April 10, 2023 nursing students and faculty recently traveled to various locations in Guatemala, continuing the school’s offering of global opportunities where students are able to provide medical support to resource-limited communities in need. This trip marked �������������’s 5th deployment to Guatemala and 12th overall international clinical trip since October 2021.

“The international clinical program we offer garners a great deal student interest. They are purposeful, not only in terms of providing students with an immersive and practical experience, but even more so to improve the lives of those communities at a global scale,” said Daniel Wakamatsu, lead faculty of the international clinical program at Joyce. “In these challenging environments, students develop important critical thinking, collaborative, and communication skills that prepare them to be active participants and leaders in their nursing careers.”

Prior to departure, this group of 10 students demonstrated their commitment by fundraising and collecting medications and supplies, totaling over $4,000 in value, that were donated to communities they served in Guatemala. Donations included much needed items such as children’s vitamins, over-the-counter medications, lab equipment, and school supplies.

Over the course of two weeks, students worked with local healthcare providers to deliver primary care services and related community education for individuals of all ages, from infancy to the older adult. Joyce’s blended program design enables students to keep up with their coursework, maintaining their studies virtually.

������������� has established a diverse suite of clinical offerings. In addition to the work completed in Guatemala, ������������� students have served deployments with Clinica Esperanza, a non-profit based in Roatan, Honduras.
